I bought my ME Super the day the Pope came to Edinburgh. Thinking the shop would be closed due to the visit, I was peering through the door when to my horror, it opened suddenly and I fell all my length into the shop.I was so embarassed by my spectacular entrance that I forgot to buy film for my new camera so the only images I have of this historic visit are those in my memory! ME became my faithful companion for years and was regretfully retired only due to the acquisition of a digital camera. I miss you ME!
Twenty-five years with Pentax. I cut my teeth with an ME Super that drowned in an African stream. I grew into AF with an SFXn and zoomed forward with a Z-1 until its heart burst. I indulged in an LX then realised my dreams in a 67 and 67II. I went digital with a K10D, now I dream K-7. I have broken cameras, lost lenses, suffered frustrations, but I’ve stayed faithful to Pentax. And Pentax stayed faithful to me; my first lens is still used, my first joy untarnished. A Pentax is not just a tool; it is a legend.
I had no idea at the time what the name Pentax meant to the world of photography. As far as I was concerned it was just a camera, right? Wrong! My old schoolmate Tony, owned a Pentax ME, and constantly boasted about what great quality photos he got. I was not a camera owner at the time and tired of his boasting, he was a cool dude but what a boring show off about just a camera. That was thirty years ago, I now own a Pentax K200D. Tony mate, it's never too late to learn. Please accept my apologies.
Lived in London in the late 60s & 70s. Met this girl who was a mad keen photographer. Got me interested in photography. I went out and bought a Pentax Spotmatic on her advice, she sayed it would be the perfect camera for me. I never looked back. Photography became more than a hobby it became a passion. It went literally everywhere with me. After years had it stolen.I was devestated. I lost interest in photography. I missed my Spotmatic. Got married. Had children. Had to record this part of my life. Bought a ME Super. Still using it !.
My First Pentax was an Asahi KM, which my husband bought in a second hand shop. Eventhough I did capture some good images I was so glad when I switched to digital photography. I started with the K110D,when I felt my skills had developed enough to progress I invested in the K10D, I take it everywhere with me. Photography is my passion, so much so I started my own business providing Landscape holidays and tuition. My camera is in for repair at present and i'm getting withdrawal symptoms. I would love to be the proud owner of the K7 DSLR.
My father had a Pentax H3 which was his pride and joy. Money was tight, and he had to sell it to pay the rent. Many years on, I had an SFX. Recently I bought a K20 so I gave my SFX to my Dad, now 83. Since then the new topic of conversation whenever I visit him is his "new camera". He doesn’t want to go digital, however if I had a K7, my K20 might just tempt him. The Pentax photography route that he started long ago still progresses in our family, my son now has an M60
Almost hidden in the muddy water, the prism gleamed at me. I hadn’t a clue what it was, but it seemed to be signalling its presence to everyone on the busy towpath as I stopped fishing and feigned an interest in the bankside planting, probing nonchalantly with my fishing net until I could to scoop it up and stuff it into my bag. The body, washed carefully in the bath, remained on my window sill for a year before I knew what an Pentax Asahi Spotmatic was, and a decade before I bought my first complete one. The magic remains!
Dad gave me a Pentax LX for my 21st birthday - his way of making sure that I wouldn't "borrow" his beloved Spotmatic camera ever again. "Son," he grinned "it's amazing. You'll be needing this now that you're leaving home and you can't just casually misplace MY camera into YOUR university baggage anymore!" Dad passed away recently. Mum already went a few years ago, so I've been left with all his possessions - including a beautifully looked after Spotmatic. When I finally go digital, I know which brand I'll choose. And someone will smile down at me.
Not a great story but I purchased for first Pentax and first DSLR about 6 months before my daughter was born. It was a K100D and my first taste of proper photography. I was hooked. Since this time I had acquired a K20D and a nice collection of lenses. My beasties went everywhere with me and I became an affiliated pentaxian. Due to current financial problems though I have had to sell all my gear which has broken my heart. One day I will return though and this K-7 will do just nicely for starters.
On the 4th January 2009 at around 10:00pm, I went up a hilltop near Nelson, New Zealand to the "Centre of New Zealand". I shot the monument against nice star constellations. By the time I was finished it had gone completely dark. On the way back I couldn't neither see where to place my feet nor which fork to take. Luckily, my trusty K100D saved my life. I used its rear display as a torch. It was bright enough and the batteries lasted sufficiently long to guide me back down the hilltop safely. Thanks Pentax!
Thank you Pentax. My first camera was a film SLR. Pentax has recorded my life for the past 50 years or so. It has photographed my children growing up and as adults to this day, but with a D-SLR now, of course. It has photographed all my holidays and days out to various places and the photographs have brought, and are still bringing, endless fond memories and joy. 5 years ago it started to record my pride and joy. 3 wonderful grandchildren, from 2 minutes after birth, and still going of course. My photographs are invaluable.
PENTAX. Positively Excellent Nearenough Tackles Anything x I am a true Pentax junkie - my K10D is my most prized posession. My Pentax Optio A10 is constantly with me for those unmissable moments and my families glasses and sunglasses all have Pentax lens! I shot my three best friends weddings and the first few days of some precious peoples lives with my K10D this summer and am doing my first pro tog job with it next summer - and when I upgrade? Definately another Pentax, I know i'll get my moneys worth!
